ST. LOUIS - the PLATONIC COMMINGLING OF THE WATERS

I was really taken by this fountain in the heart of downtown - The Wedding of the Waters by Carl Milles at Aloe Plaza, symbolizing the joining of the Missouri and Mississipi Rivers. It was commissioned in 1936, unveiled in 1940, and caused an uproar because of the "playful, naked, and nearly cartoonish figures" with "sexual overtones" so local officials renamed the piece The Meeting of the Waters (sigh, America):

The work makes a lot more sense when the water is dancing ... see examples here from other photographers (at flickr) - http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=meeting+of+waters+st+louis.

Solomon wasn't interested (not big on fish .. maybe just fishpeople) :
